英語學習體驗

To enrich students’ English learning experiences, our school provides different learning opportunities, both inside and outside the classroom, so that students’ use of and exposure to English can be maximised. We hope to create an authentic English environment for students to raise their motivation and interest in English, as well as to develop high levels of English proficiency.

Teaching and Learning
With the aim of catering for learning diversity, split class arrangement has been in place with extra deployment of manpower. With a smaller class size, students can receive more individual attention, and thus their learning progress can be more closely monitored, making learning more effective.

Interactive Activities
Different meaningful and purposeful interactive activities are held regularly, through which students can learn and apply the language. We strive to provide chances for them to interact with teachers, including Native-speaking English Teachers (NETs), and other schoolmates. Not only can they polish their spoken English, they can also boost their confidence in speaking and develop communication skills.

(i) One-on-One Online English Oral Practice
To provide an opportunity for students to interact with NETs, external native-speaking English tutors are hired to have one-on-one online English oral practice with students outside the classroom to complement students’ English learning. Students can choose different time slots that fit their schedule to have the oral practice. The programme provides students with flexibility in choosing when to have practices,  so that they can maximize their learning experience, enhance their confidence in speaking in English and polish their ability to communicate effectively by developing adequate speaking skills.

(ii) Friday English Platform
The Friday English Platform is a game booth held weekly in collaboration with other subjects like Mathematics, History, Geography, Science, Music, Visual Arts, etc. to facilitate students’ learning of English across the curriculum.

(iii) English Speaking Weeks
During English Speaking Weeks, different activities including storytelling competition, drama performance, S.4 game booths, etc. are held to expose students to different learning opportunities. Students can explore the fun of learning English in different ways.

(iv) Chit-chat Zone
In the Chit-chat Zone, students can chat with NETs and other English teachers, play board games, listen to English songs and enjoy snacks. This gives students a very relaxing environment to immerse in the language.

(v) Reading Club
S.1-S.3 students can freely share their favourite English books with NETs and discuss with each other anything related to the pleasure of reading.

Learning Platforms
In order to widen students’ learning space, we provide different learning platforms for students to build up confidence and fully immerse them in the learning of English.

(i) NET Channel
The NET Channel is an English programme which is broadcasted live to the whole school twice a month. Hosted by the NETs, the Channel features any topics ranging from English idioms and phrases to travel and sports.

(ii) Film Appreciation
Different English films are played every Thursday in the Horizon Room. Students can enjoy the fun of watching movies.

English-rich Environment
We place much emphasis on creating an authentic English environment for students to build up their confidence in using English in their daily life. For example, students have to use English at the tuck shop, in the General Office and Library. These provide abundant chances for them to practise their spoken English. Apart from that, the English Morning Assembly also creates an environment conducive to the learning of English.

With the provision of multiple learning opportunities, we hope to arouse students’ interest in learning English and give them abundant chances to acquire and practise the language inside and outside the classroom.
