What equipment is needed to catch stray cats?
Why must cat traps be covered with black plastic bags?
How can one identify if a stray cat has already been neutered?
Today was the Club-based Refreshing Day for this academic year. Teachers and students from our school’s Animal Caring Club visited the Hong Kong Saving Cat and Dog Association’s cattery in Tsuen Wan, stepping into the daily routine of cat rescue and care!
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the senior cattery volunteer for sharing professional knowledge on the rescue, trapping, and medical care of stray cats, allowing students to comprehensively understand the importance of protecting stray animals. Following the theoretical session, students actively engaged in volunteer work. In addition to providing careful companionship to the cats and soothing them through interactive play—bringing warmth and a sense of security to these vulnerable lives—they also took the initiative to collaborate in organizing the cattery’s supplies. Everyone meticulously folded, organized, and categorized the bedsheets, towels, and warm cloth pads used daily by the cats, experiencing the daily silent contributions of volunteers and realizing that maintaining a cattery’s operation requires a significant amount of time, physical effort, and patience!
A touching moment occurred during the activity; a volunteer successfully lured and rescued a frightened little ginger cat that had been wandering alone by the side of a highway for two days. The timely rescue was truly moving!
Through today’s volunteer experience, students moved beyond theoretical knowledge to personally feel the hard work and perseverance of animal volunteers, deeply understanding that every small contribution can bring change to stray animals. As the volunteer reminded the students, every life only lives once, and we must learn to respect life! From caring and understanding to taking practical action, students learned to treat life with kindness, cultivate empathy, and spread love and goodwill through their actions!
