Inauguration of Student Leaders: Shining as Salt and Light

The Inauguration of Student Leaders of this academic year was held in the school hall on 13 October, hosted by two junior form student leaders, 2C CHIU Marissa and 2D MAN Chi-ki. The ceremony commenced with a prayer led by Evangelist YAP Kwan of ELCHK Tin Yiu Life Lutheran Church, who expressed the hope that students would follow the example of our Lord Jesus Christ, leading their fellow Lutheranians to be salt and light, and demonstrating the cohesion and spirit of church-school collaboration.

Student leaders of each student organisation then took to the stage with heads held high, and one by one received their letters of appointment and leadership badges from Principal Mr WAN, displaying the confidence and charisma of Lutheranians.

Under the guidance of the “Student Leadership Development Blueprint”, our Principal Mr WAN and teachers, acting as discerning mentors of talent, bore witness together to the birth of a new generation of student leaders and the taking up of this mission. Drawing on Matthew 5:13–15 and Philippians 2:14–16, Principal Mr WAN guided students to reflect on the meaning of “salt” in the scriptures — that they are “the salt of the earth” — encouraging them to maintain a positive attitude within their student organisations, to remain enthusiastic like “salt” as they work within their teams and set an example for others, and to shine as “the light of the world” to illuminate the way forward, pursuing their ideals hand in hand with their companions. Leaders on and off the stage responded in unison, ready to shoulder their responsibilities and be salt and light!

The ceremony drew to a close with the “Hall of Fame” induction rite, in which the student leaders personally fastened their names onto the “Hall of Fame”, formally embarking on their leadership journey. The road ahead is long and demanding — may they grow through service, shine with their own unique radiance in the year to come, and bring a positive impact to the campus, the community and the nation!
