Leading with HEART: Student Leadership Camp 2026

The annual Student Leadership Camp was held with great success on 29 September! This year, 107 outstanding Lutheranians from Secondary 2 to Secondary 5, serving in key posts across different student organisations, came together to gear up for their leadership mission in the new school year.

Session 1: Sharing by Principal Mr WAN — The “HEART” of Leadership in the Age of AI

Principal Mr WAN unpacked “HEART”, the essential qualities of an outstanding leader in the age of AI. He reminded students that being entrusted with important responsibilities shows they have strengths that set them apart, but it does not mean they must be able to do everything. A leader is like the captain of a ship: they need to draw out each member’s strengths and ways of working together, keep the whole team steady, and set an example through continuous learning. In the age of AI, leaders must put “HEART” leadership into practice:

  • H – Harmony: Build mutual understanding and inclusion in the team so that conflict is avoided; listen to others and value what they contribute.
  • E – Emotion: Keep a positive growth mindset, manage emotions rationally, and turn setbacks into fuel for progress.
  • A – Adaptability: Embrace change and challenge, stay keen on lifelong learning, and respond flexibly to a fast-changing new era.
  • R – Responsibility: Stay faithful to the trust placed in them by the school, understand the nature and duties of different posts, and step forward to take responsibility.
  • T – Trouble-shooting: Solve problems rather than only raise them; when difficulties arise, work with teachers and teammates and put forward concrete suggestions.

Session 2: Theatresports™ Improvisation Workshop

The School invited tutors from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong Tin Shui Wai Youth Integrated Service Centre to lead the session. Through Theatresports™ improvisation, the workshop built on the leadership mindset introduced in the first session and prompted students to reflect.

Student reflections

In today’s sharing, Principal Mr WAN reminded us that although AI is powerful, what makes a leader irreplaceable is emotion, the courage to face challenges, and the wisdom to use technology well.

The improvisation segment left a deep impression on me. We tried physical interaction and built dialogue word by word in relay, working together without a script. The activity tested our teamwork and, even more, our ability to respond on the spot. It was fun and challenging.

Principal Mr WAN’s reminder helped me see more clearly that, in an organisation, we must take responsibility and adapt to different situations. While identifying problems, we should also offer ways to solve them, manage our emotions constructively, and keep a positive, optimistic attitude.

The camp left students with a great deal to take away. May our outstanding Lutheranians carry the qualities of HEART into their different student leadership posts, support one another, lead their schoolmates, and continue to shine.
