The four-day mountaineering course has come to an end! Our Lutheranian geographers learned many practical map-reading skills at Shing Mun Country Park!
Through both theoretical and practical lessons, we mastered map-reading skills and wilderness safety tips. Under the guidance of our instructors, we matched maps to the real world, observed changes in terrain and topography, understood conventional signs, and learned how to identify the characteristics of contour lines! We also learned how to rely on traditional methods to find our location and determine the direction to proceed when technology fails!
This was not just a learning experience; it was an adventure that brought us closer to nature! In addition to technical skills, we learned about wilderness codes, environmental awareness, and mountain safety. We also discussed food choices for hiking, proper gear, and how to practice the “Leave No Trace” principle, which taught us how to enjoy nature while protecting our environment!
This learning journey deepened our understanding of mountaineering, and we look forward to exploring the mysteries of nature again!
