Students from our school’s Chinese Literature Department participated in a literary walk organized by the Department of Humanities and Languages of the School of Continuing Education at Hong Kong Baptist University. Guided by docents, the teachers and students left the classroom and explored Kowloon City. Along the way, they discovered the significance of various landmarks in the former Kowloon Walled City to writers, such as the “Running Horse Balcony” in LU Lun’s Thoughts of an Old Friend and the historical features of the old walled city depicted in DUNG Kai-cheung’s City Within a City.
It is hoped that by revisiting these old sites, students will gain an understanding of the lives of contemporary Hong Kong’s renowned writers and scholars, as well as their impact on the development of local literature.
