On the first day of school, Form 1 students were given a first taste of the YLLSS arts world.
The stage programme unfolded in a lively succession of performances. The Chinese Music Ensemble, Sinfonietta, Show Choir and vocal bands took turns to perform, while tutors were specially invited to demonstrate Chinese instruments and wind instruments. The brass demonstration stood out in particular. With lively, humorous commentary and relaxed, engaging playing, the tutor brought out the distinctive timbre of brass music. The session was interactive and witty, drawing wave after wave of laughter and filling the hall with a light, cheerful atmosphere.
The tutor then stepped straight into the school orchestra and joined the students in a tightly coordinated ensemble. That joint performance became the finale of the morning and was met with sustained applause.
The programme then moved from the stage to booth-game time. Leaders from the various arts and music teams prepared and hosted the stalls, introducing Form 1 students to the training and activities of each group. Students moved from booth to booth, joined the games with enthusiasm and tried out different instruments themselves. Guided by their seniors, they not only enjoyed themselves but also gained a clearer picture of the teams that make up Arts Friday.
Arts Friday is more than an enrichment programme. It is a stage on which students can discover and develop their artistic potential. Each year, more than 350 students take part in music and arts training. Through practice, ensemble work and performance, they build confidence and stage experience, and they also learn perseverance, self-discipline and a commitment to excellence.
This orientation day gave Form 1 students their first encounter with the appeal of music and the arts, and a glimpse of what their seniors have achieved through dedicated practice. We look forward to seeing more of them join Arts Friday, find their potential in music and the arts, and become shining new stars at YLLSS.
