At the close of August—a moment filled with anticipation and possibility—we held the second S1 Orientation Day, welcoming new students and their parents as they greet the new academic year. This year’s programme was hosted by 2D CHAN Jess and 2B LAM Sze Yin, who brought energy and creativity to the stage.
The day opened with a cello and piano performance of “Remember” by S1 newcomers 1A ZHAO Tsz-ching and 1A LEE Jun-hoi Jarvis, together with 3D HO Wing-sze. The moving piece looked ahead to life as a Lutheranian on the YLLSS campus, showing courage in the face of challenge and a lively spirit that lifted everyone present.
In his welcome address, Principal Mr WAN praised the talents of the incoming S1 cohort and urged them to shine at YLLSS, stressing that growth matters more than grades. He hoped every student would pursue their interests with courage and become a better version of themselves. The Vice-Principals and Assistant Principals then briefed parents and students on learning and teaching, student activities and internationalisation, giving families a fuller picture of the school’s mission and vision.
In the student-sharing session, three student leaders—4A LEUNG Chau-hei, 3C CHAN Hei-tung and 2D CHAN Jess—spoke about their experiences at YLLSS, including student leadership, exchange tours and interest groups. Their accounts showed how the school builds confidence and enthusiasm for campus life, and left the new S1 students looking forward to what lies ahead.
The school orchestra then performed “The Bat Overture”, after which the a cappella Sparklers sang “Golden”, closing the first session and giving parents and newcomers a clear sense of the school’s strength in music education.
In the second session, core-subject panel heads and department heads continued with learning strategies, school measures, and internal and external activities, so that students and their parents can prepare together for the journey ahead.
In the third session, S1 students and their class teachers moved into classrooms to meet classmates and settle class matters. PTA Chairman Mr CHAN Sheung-fuk, Vice-Principal Ms TANG, Mr LI Ka-shun, Ms LIN On-yi, Mr YAM Ngai-hong and Mr CHAN Lun-pok also spoke about their roles, stressing home–school partnership in supporting students’ growth. The hope is that, over the next six years, S1 students will discover their potential and shine through the concerted efforts of home and school.
