This morning, Bishop LEUNG Mei-ying of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong, Dr LAU Wai-hoi, Deputy Head of the Education Department, School Supervisor Mr AU Shing-hei, Principal Mr WAN, Rev. LUI Hing-tong of Tin Yiu Life Lutheran Church, School Manager Ms YIP Kwan and Vice-Principal Mr TAM Kin-fan gathered for the Education Sunday Worship and Blessing Ceremony, offering students blessings filled with care and warmth.
In her sharing, titled “Beginning from the Heart”, Bishop LEUNG Mei-ying encouraged students not to give up easily when facing new attempts and challenges, even if their faith is as small as a mustard seed. Trusting in the Lord, she said, gives them the confidence to face their own shortcomings, the humility to explore the world, and the courage to ask questions. She reminded them that a humble heart is the necessary path to growth, and the most beautiful way of learning. She closed by blessing every student with “the courage of faith” and “the wisdom of humility”.
Principal Mr WAN used the eagle as an example, encouraging students to trust in God and soar on wings like eagles. He likened parents to “eagle mums and dads” who quietly watch over and support their children: from the early days when a young eagle must be carefully tended, through growing up in the updraft formed by a parent’s watchful care, to finally learning to fly on their own. He hoped that every student would not only find a sky of their own, but also rise still higher under God’s blessing.
Principal Mr WAN also shared what it means to him to write a blessing card by hand each year for nearly a thousand students across the school, witnessing their flourishing growth and the transformation of their lives. He hoped that, throughout their secondary years, whenever students open the wooden box that holds these blessings and see card after card filled with well-wishes, they will draw support and strength from them.
Although this year’s Blessing Ceremony centred on Secondary One students, other new members and students who had not joined a blessing ceremony before were warmly invited to take part, and to receive the love and hope that come from God. A blessing is a gentle strength that walks with them as they grow, guiding them to step bravely into the future with faith, love and hope.
At the close of the ceremony, Bishop LEUNG, Dr LAU, Supervisor AU, Principal Mr WAN, Rev. LUI, School Manager YIP and Vice-Principal TAM offered a prayer of blessing for the students and placed in their hands a small wooden box filled with heartfelt blessings. The cards inside symbolise the peace, joy, love and faith that come from God, inspiring every Lutheranian to press on with courage on the path of learning and growth, to glorify God and benefit others, and to mount up with wings like eagles.
Lutheranians who grow up in blessing learn gratitude more deeply, love themselves and others more truly, hold fast to their dreams more firmly, and dare all the more to spread their wings and soar.
