Our school’s 57th Speech Day was successfully held on Wednesday, 21st May. We were deeply honored to have Mr. SHUM Ho-kit, BBS, JP, grace the occasion as our officiating guest, offering his blessings to our S6 graduates. The presence of our school directors and parents further added to the prestige of the event.
The ceremony officially began with an encouraging address from Mr. SHUM. Before his speech, Mr. SHUM extended his best wishes to the graduating class. He then shared his profound affection for Yuen Long, elaborating on its significant role in the broader development of Hong Kong and the nation, as well as Hong Kong’s unique position and spirit. He used this to encourage the students to embrace opportunities, actively seek progress, maintain a spirit of inquiry, and remain positive and optimistic. He urged them to utilize their knowledge and talents to serve the community and their homeland, benefiting all.
The ceremony concluded with Principal Mr. WAN’s closing remarks. Principal Mr. WAN first offered his blessings to the graduates and reminded them that Yuen Long Lutheran Secondary School is their second home, encouraging them to love themselves and others, and to show care for those around them. Principal Mr. WAN noted that even if things aren’t perfect at the moment, S6 graduates should still step forward and be brave in trying new things. He even cleverly spelled out “IMPERFECT” on the spot, then broke it down into “I’m perfect,” to help students understand that everyone has the potential to strive for perfection.
He expressed his hope that graduates would cherish the values cultivated during their six years at the school, embodying the six core characteristics of a ” Lutheranian “: faith, gratitude, optimism, self-discipline, empathy, and justice. He also encouraged them to leverage their talents and creativity in the age of artificial intelligence, boldly step out of their comfort zones, and hold fast to their passions. He concluded by wishing the graduating class a magnificent future, soaring like eagles.
Time flies, and with only a short period left at school, the graduates cherished every precious moment together. We sang the graduation anthem in unison, enjoyed wonderful performances by our junior students—including Chinese dance and drum music, a cappella, handbell, and orchestral music—donned our graduation caps, personally moved our tassels from right to left, and then tossed our caps high into the air! Today, we gathered at YLLSS and created countless unforgettable moments. We believe that with the love and care received at school, our graduates will undoubtedly achieve great things and forge their own successful paths.
