Principal WAN Ho-yin was recently invited to write a Principal’s Note for Hong Kong 01. Following October’s edition, this time the topic is ‘Home-School Partnership: Helping Mainland Students Shine’, highlighting the story of our S5 student, Ka-chun.
Originally from Zhejiang, Ka-chun moved three times in pursuit of an ideal education, ultimately arriving at YLLSS. Ka-chun’s parents firmly believe in the diversity of Hong Kong’s education, and this conviction has supported her in overcoming numerous challenges. At school, she participated in the Global Project, using technology to overcome the language barriers and communicate with classmates from different countries, broadening her horizons.
With the development of internationalization, Ka-chun has also recognized the importance of cultural confidence. Through the annual Chinese Culture Week, she gained a deeper understanding of the values of benevolence, perseverance, and filial piety, which serve as the foundation for her future growth.
Although Ka-chun’s educational journey is filled with challenges, she bravely faces each difficulty with the support of her family and school. When she had the opportunity to join an Antarctic study tour, despite financial pressures, she chose not to give up and ultimately received support and encouragement from many.
Ka-chun understands the significance of having a growth mindset. She has transformed from a shy girl into a confident young lady, recognizing that mistakes are opportunities for learning. Her story reminds us that love and confidence can help every student shine as they grow. Let us witness this power together!
