2025/26 High Table Dinner

The school’s 2025/26 High Table Dinner was successfully held on 1 March 2026! This year, we were honored to have Alumnus CHAN Cheuk-wai, a 2024 graduate and outstanding alumnus, as our officiating guest. Alumnus CHAN is currently studying for a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Hong Kong. He gathered with the top students from each class and their parents to share the joy of their achievements, engaging in discussions and academic exchanges.

Principal Mr. WAN delivered a welcoming speech, noting that “High Flyers” are defined not only by outstanding academic results but also by three essential qualities: “having aspirations, having competence, and having a sense of responsibility.” These three traits are fully embodied by Alumnus CHAN Cheuk-wai and his family. “Having aspirations” means having light in one’s heart and a path beneath one’s feet, with a clear direction in life that values character and breadth of mind over mere scores, with the original intention of serving society. “Having competence” refers to the ability to solve problems, turning talent into strength, applying what has been learned, and emphasizing creativity and practical execution. “Having a sense of responsibility” means being deeply connected to one’s family, society, and country; the greater the ability, the greater the responsibility to contribute to the public and courageously undertake one’s mission. Principal Mr. WAN used the metaphor of a ship: aspirations are the sails, competence is the oars, and responsibility is the rudder, guiding students toward true success and freedom. He encouraged the outstanding students to follow the example of Alumnus CHAN Cheuk-wai and thanked the teachers, parents, and students for their hard work and support.

Subsequently, in his sharing, Alumnus CHAN Cheuk-wai echoed the value and importance of “chasing dreams” mentioned in Principal Mr. WAN’s welcoming speech. He reminisced about his six youthful years at YLLSS and the moments of pursuing his dreams, expressing his gratitude to the school, the Principal, and his mentors. Alumnus CHAN recalled that when he was choosing his subjects in Secondary 5, Principal Mr. WAN encouraged him by saying, “It doesn’t matter which subject you choose, as long as you like it; then that subject will be your ‘God-tier’ subject, and only then will you study happily”. These words made him realize that true success does not come from so-called “popular subjects” but from a passion for what one does. Therefore, he resolutely chose Medicine. Even though he had not initially studied Biology, he remained confident in handling the medical curriculum and dedicated himself to his dream. He particularly thanked Principal Mr. WAN for providing encouragement and confidence even when his choice differed significantly from his original plan, supporting him as he set out toward his dream.

Alumnus CHAN encouraged his younger brothers and sisters to “remain firm in their convictions, persevere, be unafraid of failure, and explore their interests.” He urged them to participate in various activities to discover themselves and think about how to contribute to the community with their knowledge. He advised the outstanding students to reflect on their own dreams, understanding that every journey has its value in building who they are today, and to work hard to equip themselves to achieve success and pass on the legacy.

Following the conclusion of the award ceremony, the award-winning students took warm group photos with Principal Mr. WAN, teachers, and parents, bringing the dinner to a successful close. Beyond recognizing the outstanding performance of the high achievers, the High Table Dinner served as a significant moment for home-school cooperation. As Principal Mr. WAN mentioned in his welcoming speech, parents are the greatest supporters on a student’s journey toward their dreams. Let home and school work together to support children in daring to dream, ensuring that each generation surpasses the last!
