New Students’ Orientation Day: A Splendid Secondary School Journey Begins!

At the end of August, a time filled with hope and possibility, we held our “Secondary 1 Orientation Day.” We prepared a memorable event for our new students and their parents to welcome the new school year together! This year’s event was hosted by three talented student MCs: 3C CHOW Tsz-ching, and 3D LAU Sum-yee and 3D LEUNG Chau-hei, who showcased the energy and creativity of our junior secondary students.

The orientation kicked off with a heartwarming harp and piano duet of “Remember”, which was performed by S1 student LUI Lok-yin and S2 student HO Wing-sze. Their moving performance beautifully illustrated their aspirations for life at YLLSS, showing their courage and vibrant spirit in the face of challenges, which uplifted everyone in attendance!

In his welcome speech, Principal Mr. WAN commended the various talents of the new S1 students and encouraged them all to shine during their time at the school, emphasizing that personal growth is more important than academic grades. Principal Mr. WAN hopes that every student will bravely pursue their interests and become the best version of themselves. Following this, the vice-principals and assistant principals gave parents and students a detailed overview of learning and teaching, student activities, and key internationalization initiatives, providing parents with a more comprehensive understanding of the school’s future.

During the student sharing session, three student leaders—3D WONG Ho-chun, 3D LAU Sum-yee and 4A CHAN Yan-yuet—shared their rich learning experiences at school, including student leader camps, exchange programs, and interest groups. Their stories perfectly illustrated how the school inspires students to confidently and enthusiastically embrace school life, igniting a sense of excitement among the new S1 students! Afterward, the school’s handbell team delivered a wonderful performance of “Remember Me,” and the a cappella group Euphonia sang “Head Above Water.” This brought the first part of the event to a perfect close, allowing parents and new students to feel the excellence of our school’s music education.

In the second session, heads of core subjects and departments continued to share study tips, school policies, and information about both in-school and extracurricular activities with parents and students. Well-informed about a plethora of potential and growth opportunities ahead, new students, together with their parents, are now ready to embark on their secondary school adventure.

During the third session, new S1 students and their class teachers went to their classrooms to get to know one another and handle class affairs. Mr. CHAN Sheung-fuk, the Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association, along with Vice-Principal Miss TANG, Department head Mr. CHAN and Miss LIN, also shared their supporting roles in this session, emphasizing ways to promote home-school cooperation to collectively support students’ growth. We hope that over the next six years, with the united efforts of the home and the school, our new S1 students will be able to discover their potential and shine as stars!
