HK01 – YLLSS Orientation Activities Embrace a “Happydemic” Atmosphere by Establishing a Balanced Daily Routine and a Strong Sense of Belonging in Students

As September marks the beginning of a new academic year for schools across Hong Kong, YLLSS has recently been featured in the renowned publication HK01 to share our exciting “Orientation Series” specially designed for incoming secondary school students. Focusing on cultivating a “Happydemic” atmosphere, our school recognises that it’s natural for students transitioning to secondary school to feel anxious and unsettled in the face of unfamiliar surroundings. That is why our school places great emphasis on nurturing students’ emotional well-being over academic knowledge. During the interview, Principal Mr. WAN unveiled an effective study technique called the “Pomodoro Technique” to help students grasp the importance of maintaining a balanced study and rest schedule in order to optimise their learning experience and achieve better results.

Moreover, our students, S5 LIN Sin-yu and S1 LAU Sum-yee, shared their back-to-school experiences during the interview. As the Head Guidance Prefect, LIN organised the S1 Activity Day with the full support from our dedicated teachers. This event not only helped new students forge meaningful connections through games, but also allowed them to familiarise themselves with their new teachers and the campus environment. The ultimate goal? Fostering a strong sense of belonging and alleviating any anxieties or uncertainties they may have had. Besides, Lau mentioned how her summer experience, filled with engaging orientation events, has left her primary schoolmates envious, many of whom have already started pre-term remedial classes. As if that wasn’t enough, Lau enthralled her fellow schoolmates with a captivating talent performance during the S1 Activity Day, earning their admiration and igniting a sense of fulfilment and accomplishment within herself.
