Multicultural Week – Multicultural Experience

The inaugural address of our Multicultural Week has been a resounding success! Activities this year centered on the diverse New Year traditions from around the globe, providing students and faculty with a unique opportunity to explore the rich cultural tapestry of how different nations welcome the new year.

The festivities were uplifted by our talented musical groups. The Handbell Team delivered enchanting performances of “Doraemon” and “A Whole New World,” their clear, harmonized ringing creating a bright and uplifting atmosphere. Following them, the A Cappella Team performed “Golden” showcasing the power and beauty of the human voice through complex vocal arrangements and rhythmic precision.

In addition to the performances, students engaged in the foreign language new year greeting performance, where they learned to express holiday wishes in multiple languages. Cultural discovery extended further with various interactive booths dedicated to known, yielded, and obscure traditions, featuring traditional holiday foods, unique customs, and the etiquette associated with different cultures.

A special highlight was the visit from Vice Principal Masafumi Akiyama of our partner school, Momoyama Junior High School Attached to Kyoto University of Education. He conducted a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, introducing our students to the profound philosophy and meticulous etiquette behind this ancient practice. Furthermore, our students participated in a virtual exchange with their Japanese peers, sharing insights into their daily school lives and cultural heritage.

Through these diverse experiences and meaningful exchanges, Multicultural Week successfully advanced our goal of fostering global awareness, broadening perspectives, and nurturing a spirit of respect and appreciation for the world’s diverse cultures.
