Subject Features
Music education enriches students’ creativity, enhances cognitive skills, and promotes cultural appreciation. It fosters collaboration and self-expression, providing a foundation for personal growth and a lifelong love for music through musical experiences.
Form 1 – Orchestral Journey
In Form 1’s “Orchestra Journey,” students will learn instruments such as the violin, cello, flute, clarinet, and percussion, and will form a band for ensemble playing. This experiential teaching approach not only helps students master the basic techniques of their instruments but also allows them to enjoy the teamwork involved in actual performances, further cultivating their musical perception and expressive abilities.
Form 2 – Handbell Training Camp
The Form 2 “Handbell Training Camp” focuses on learning handbells, allowing students to experience the harmony unit in music. Through practical handbell performances, students can gain a deeper understanding of harmony concepts, enhancing their interest and comprehension of music, and further improving their musical literacy.
Promoting Diverse Musical Cultures
We actively promote diverse musical cultures through various music groups on campus, including the orchestra, Chinese orchestra, Chinese drum team, and a cappella groups, allowing students to engage with different musical styles. The orchestra gathers students playing various instruments, providing them with opportunities to perform classical and modern works, enhancing their musical skills while fostering teamwork. The Chinese orchestra focuses on traditional Chinese music, where students learn to play ethnic instruments such as the erhu, dizi, and pipa, experiencing the unique charm of Chinese music. The Chinese drum team enables students to master percussion techniques, while the a cappella groups encourage students to develop vocal harmony and creativity. These musical activities not only enrich students’ learning experiences but also promote understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures.
Music Platform
Regular music performances are an essential component of this curriculum, with the music platform designed to showcase students’ talents and enhance their performance confidence. Students have the opportunity to perform in school concerts, talent shows, and community events, allowing them to practice their musical skills and share their creations with classmates and parents. These performances cultivate students’ stage presence and confidence, and after each performance, they receive feedback from teachers and audiences, further improving their performance skills.
Enhancing Music Education with Technology
In this music course, students will integrate technology and creativity, learning how to use music software like GarageBand for digital music creation. The curriculum aims to inspire students’ creativity by helping them master techniques in arrangement, recording, and mixing through hands-on practice. Students will explore various musical styles, including pop music, electronic music, and film scoring, and have the opportunity to create music based on their interests, promoting interaction and collaboration.
Deepening Learning for Future Studies
Our school offers a high school music curriculum that aligns with the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination, aimed at helping students deepen their music knowledge and skills, thus laying a solid foundation for future studies. The curriculum covers multiple aspects, including music theory, performance techniques, composition, and arrangement, enabling students to develop their musical talents comprehensively. Through practical performances and participation in various music activities, students will enhance their confidence and performance abilities, preparing them for further music studies and academic pursuits.
Comprehensive and Diverse Assessment Model
We employ a diversified assessment model to comprehensively evaluate students’ music learning outcomes and skill development. The assessment includes practical performance evaluations, where students showcase their skills in class and at regular performances; music theory tests to assess their understanding of fundamental music knowledge; creative compositions and arrangements, encouraging students to submit their works; and group collaboration projects that evaluate students’ teamwork and communication skills. Through this diverse assessment model, we aim to gain a thorough understanding of each student’s musical ability and provide targeted support and guidance.
