Subject Features
Physical Education is to “educate through the physical”. It aims to develop students’ physical competence and knowledge of movement and safety, and their ability to use these to perform in a wide range of activities associated with the development of an active and healthy lifestyle. It also develops students’ confidence and generic skills, especially those of collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking and aesthetic appreciation. These, together with the nurturing of positive values and attitudes in PE, provide a good foundation for students’ lifelong and life-wide learning. (Education Bureau)
Direction
Our Physical Education curriculum includes a variety of sports and physical activities, catering to different interests and skill levels of our students. The curriculum not only focuses on traditional sports but also embraces modern trends such as E-sports and Newly Emerged Sports, providing students with a holistic approach to physical activities; these are popular with our students, particularly our junior form students.
Incorporation of E-Sports
E-sports are integrated into the curriculum to enhance strategic thinking, teamwork and quick decision-making skills. Students participate in organized competitions using AI Bikes and the Switch Sports Games, where they learnt the importance of sportsmanship and fair play. Lessons emphasize various aspects of gaming, including hand-eye coordination, communication, and tactical planning. Additionally, students explore the physical and mental benefits of gaming, especially when balanced with traditional physical activities. This would help improve students confidence and area that needs improvement.
Exploration of Newly Emerged Sports
The curriculum includes activities such as Pickleball, Flyball, Kinball, Bubble Football and Floorball which reflects the evolving landscape of sports. These emerging sports cultivate in students generic skills, positive values and attitudes, in addition to physical competence, for lifelong and life-wide learning. Newly Emerged Sports often appeal to a wider range of students, including those who may not engage in traditional sports. This inclusivity fosters a sense of belonging and encourages all students to participate in sports.
Health and Wellness Education
Students learn the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle through physical activity, nutrition and mental well-being. The curriculum emphasizes teamwork, communication, leadership and resilience which prepares students for challenges both in sports and everyday life. To support this, our school introduced a scheme called “Be a Healthy Lutheranian” which encourage our students to record their daily exercise activities in a logbook and help them to integrate regular physical activities into their daily routines.
