School Opening Ceremony 2024-2025

The School Opening Ceremony began with a speech by Principal Mr. WAN, who used the Tomato Technique shared last year as a tool to introduce a growth mindset, sharing about the growth mindset as a belief that one’s abilities and intelligence are not fixed but can continuously develop through effort, effective strategies, and perseverance. Students with a growth mindset view challenges as opportunities for learning and growth, see mistakes as an indispensable part of the learning process, and are willing to learn from them. They are willing to work hard, embrace new experiences, and are not quick to give up.

Which is more important on the path of growth: a fixed mindset or a growth mindset?

Students enthusiastically responded to the question, with 6E MAK Ka-yuen pointing out the importance of a growth mindset. Using his own growth as an example, he mentioned that he used to have a fixed mindset, limiting himself and often getting stuck in his learning. Now, by employing a growth mindset, he dares to take on new challenges, learns different skills through various school service positions, and enriches himself.

Principal Mr. WAN also encouraged students to cultivate a growth mindset and be vigilant about falling into a fixed mindset. He reminded students that using the Tomato Technique can help achieve a balance between learning and rest; while possessing a growth mindset can help students face challenges with more confidence and joy. Both are invaluable elements in our school’s “Happydemic” policy. Principal Mr. WAN also introduced this year’s Vice Principals, Assistant Principals, and a mix of new and experienced teachers as part of the YLLSS family!

In the academic year 2023-2024, the school achieved excellent results in the HKDSE. This success was not only due to the dedicated teaching of our teachers but also the hard work of the students themselves. Recognizing this, the school invited CHAN Cheuk-wai (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, The University of Hong Kong) and KIANG Sin-hang (BSc (Hons) Scheme in Medical Laboratory Science and Radiography, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University) to share their learning experiences with the students.

This year, our school also participated in the AFS Intercultural Program. For this academic year, Amara Erostarbe from Spain will be participating in a year-long exchange program at our school. Erostarbe kindly introduced herself to the students on stage and believes that with the love and care of YLLSS students, she will create many wonderful memories during her stay in Hong Kong.

Finally, we wish everyone the best for a successful academic year!
