Subject Features
The Visual Arts Department is committed to cultivating creativity and fostering innovation among our students. Our teaching highlights reflect a dynamic approach that integrates technology, collaboration, and cultural exploration into the art-making process.
Embracing Technology
We harness the power of cutting-edge technologies, including Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Artificial Intelligence (AI), to enhance artistic expression and expand the boundaries of traditional art forms. Through these tools, students explore new dimensions of creativity, allowing them to create immersive and interactive artworks.
Engagement Beyond the Classroom
Our department encourages students to participate in various external exhibitions and workshops. By engaging with artists and art programs outside of school, students gain valuable insights and experiences that enrich their artistic practice and broaden their perspectives.
Arts and Cultural Exploration
We believe in the importance of understanding global art practices. Therefore, our students have opportunities to visit art museums and join arts festivals and events in countries such as France, England, Switzerland, Scotland, China, and Japan. These experiences immerse them in diverse cultures and artistic traditions, inspiring their work and fostering a greater appreciation for the world’s artistic heritage.
Collaboration with Scholars
The Visual Arts Department collaborates with established scholars and artists, including Professor Mee-ping Leung, the former Director of the Centre for Research & Development in Visual Arts at the Academy of Visual Arts in HKBU, and the renowned artist and designer Kingsley Siu-king Ng, Associate Professor and Programme Director in the Arts and Technology Department at HKBU. This collaboration provides students with access to expert knowledge and artistic insights that help enhance their creativity.
Building a Youth Artist Community (EVA)
We are dedicated to nurturing a group of potential young artists known as EVA (Elite Visual Artists) within our school. By providing tailored training and support, the department prepares them to participate in various arts competitions, enhancing their skills, confidence, and artistic voice while fostering a collaborative environment where they can thrive.
Showcasing Student Art
To celebrate our students’ artistic achievements, we provide platforms such as the Art Hub and Art Lane at school, where they can regularly showcase their work. These spaces not only highlight their creativity but also encourage dialogue and engagement with a broader audience.
