Our school’s student leaders were invited by Yuen Long District Office to attend the “Youth Development Blueprint Yuen Long Youth Meet and Greet” at Yuen Long Town Hall to talk with government officials, the Legislative Council and workers of the district. We were honoured to have the support and encouragement of the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr. CHAN Kwok-kee, GBS, IDSM, JP, and Secretary for Home Affairs and Youth Affairs, Ms. Alice MAK, SBS, JP, to listen to the students’ sharing on the topics of “Personal Development of Youth”, “Participation in Public Affairs”, and “National Development and Opportunities”.
During the interview, LAM Heung-ying was impressed by our students’ confidence and positive mentality of turning pressure into motivation. KIANG Sin-hang also mentioned that she had participated in elderly volunteer service at YLLSS and expressed her hope that there would be elderly-care programmes and courses for diversified development in Hong Kong. The Chief Secretary for Administration also expressed his appreciation and said he would suggest planning to the Government.
The dialogue not only helped the Government to understand more about the voices of the youth but also enhanced the students’ understanding of the youth policy in Hong Kong, the difficulties officials might encounter in implementing the policy, and, more importantly, the vision and opportunities embedded in the policies.
